About

Katherine O’Connor is an emerging writer from Calgary, Alberta. She graduated from the combined honours program in Art History and English at the University of Alberta, and is currently pursuing a Writing MFA in Fiction at Columbia University.

After studying feminine monstrosity in her undergraduate program, Katherine was inspired to bring elements of the disturbing into her own writing.

Katherine’s interest in creative writing emerged from writing, recording, and performing original songs with a local alternative-rock band when she was in high school. Since then, her short speculative horror story “Jack and Jill” was published in the Voices of the Dead digital zine as a part of a graduate digital humanities project at the University of Alberta. Her poetry has also been published in several online and print literary magazines, including ‘Mold” which was nominated by As Alive Journal for the 2024 Best of Net award.

In addition to publishing several critical academic articles, Katherine is passionate about promoting the local arts community. She has conducted interviews with local creatives and published cultural reviews on The Gateway’s website.
